ZTE brings WiMAX to Libya

ZTE Corporation of China announced today that it has signed an agreement with Libya Telecom to help build a commercial WiMAX network. According to a ZTE press release, the network will cover eight cities, including Tripoli, and it is expected that the network will be completed by Q3 2008. The network should provide access to some 300,000 subscribers in its first phase, said Telecom Libya. ZTE will provide a series of distributed and end-to-end IP WiMAX product solutions including compact and high-capacity base stations, access gateway, network management system, MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching) and IMS (IP Multimedia System). ZTE is one of China’s largest manufacturers of telecoms equipment, and is quickly becoming one of the largest suppliers of WiMAX equipment.
