Telmex covers Chile with WiMAX

Telmex announced this week that its WiMAX network in Chile now covers 98% of the population. In January 2007, Telmex received approval from the Chilean government to build its WiMAX infrastructure. The company began offering WiMAX services in March 2007 and today it operates throughout the country, including Easter Island. In a prepared statement, Telecommunications undersecretary Pablo Bello said the Telmex WiMAX network is “good news for Chile, and for consumers.” The general manager of Telmex, Eduardo Diaz Corona, added that Telemx is committed to the development of WiMAX throughout Chile and the region. “We all know that in the world we live today, being connected [to the Internet] is not a luxury but a Need. The technology is no longer for the privileged few,” he said.
