Ericsson and Hungary's Pannon Test 3G at 900Mhz

In co-operation with Ericsson Hungary, local mobile operator Pannon says that it has started the test phase of a mobile telecommunication system project designed to provide 3G (UMTS) services over a 900MHz frequency network.

It is known that Pannon would be pleased to free the 900MHz frequency for use with UMTS-based mobile broadband services if permitted by Hungarian regulations. The company noted that 3G at 900MHz networks are more cost effective to operate and have a greater transmission range and thereby offer a real alternative for sparsely populated areas as well.

Pannon intends to offer the technology to the general public as soon as possible once the test period is over and proper regulation is in place.
