Talkster does ad-supported free long distance VoIP

Maybe, you've tried TalkPlus, Rebtel or Jajah, all of which offer some cheap phone calls overseas. Some like Rebtel offer free calls if you do a little manuever where you hang up and then have your friend dial you back.

In most cases though the calls end up costing you something. You usually have to set up an account where you pay as little as a couple of cents per minute to call internationally. But if you've been watching the telecom space, ad-support is the new buzzword and it's coming to Voice over Internet Protocol phoning.

Talkster is launching a new ad-supported service at the CTIA WIRELESS IT & Entertainment 2007 cell phone convention. You just visit the Talkster website from a PC or cell phone browser and enter in your number and the number of the friend you'd like to call. After you click to get connected you listen to a ten second commercial before you can talk all you want for free.

That's a nice and easy way to get your international calling fix without having to start an account or hand over some credit card information.

The Toronto-based company also offers a Facebook widget, so you can call while socially networking. You can also do group calls for up to five callers. And if you want you can also opt-in for SMS coupon offers if you're in the mood.
