Sole bidder PCCW wins Hong Kong's fifth 3G mobile license

PCCW Ltd was the only bidder for the fifth third-generation(3G) mobile license offered by the Hong Kong government, according to the Office of the Telecommunications Authority (OFTA). Since PCCW was the only applicant and has met the pre-qualification requirements, it is the provisional successful bidder and there will be no auction, OFTA said in a statement. PCCW-HKT is required to pay to the government the spectrum utilization fee of 76 mln hkd ($10 million )and provide to the Telecommunications Authority a performance bond of 150 mln hkd($20 million). The license granted is for offering third-generation mobile services based on CDMA2000 technology. PCCW will be permitted to provide CDMA 2000 services after November 20 next year.
