Nortel WiMAX solution chosen by Far EasTone

Far EasTone Telecommunications (FET), a telecomms operator in Taiwan, is to launch its Mobile WiMAX network from communications solutions provider Nortel.

As a participant in the Taiwan government's M-Taiwan initiative, FET will offer mobile broadband services across Taipei County. According to the company, the network will enable subscribers to access high bandwidth services such as streaming video, music, IPTV, VoIP, videoconferencing and corporate applications irrespective of the location, using laptop computers or other WiMAX-compatible devices.

FET's network will reportedly be built from Nortel's Mobile WiMAX Solution portfolio with MIMO capability, including 16e Base Stations and an Access Service Network (ASN) Gateway. In addition, the company will provide network management services from its Global Services portfolio.
