Clearwire Introduces Pre-WiMAX PC Card

I used an EVDO card on my last business trip. It's tough not to be enamored with the freedom it gives you, not having to tie yourself to wall sockets or Wi-Fi hot spots, but most of us have become a bit spoiled over in terms of speed over the past few years, between Cable and DSL lines at home and the LAN at work.

Clearwire's new pre-WiMAX card seeks to bring the best of both worlds with its "True Broadband." Plug this sucker into the PC Card slot on your notebook, and it'll give you some highspeed wireless data transfer, via Motorola's pre-WiMAX OFDM tech--that it, if you happen to be in the still fairly limited coverage area.

Still looking to make the leap? The card will cost you $230, according to Engadget, or you can "lease" it, for $6.00 a month. And then there's the $59.99 per month fee for coverage, of course.
