D-Link Enters WiMAX Market With Beceem Powered Terminal Products

D-Link is announcing its Mobile WiMAX products based on the BCS200 during the 2007 WiMAX Forum Taipei Showcase and Conference. Commercial shipments of the products are expected in the first quarter of 2008.

D-Link will sell Mobile WiMAX network gear, which is based on Beceem Communications' BCS200 chipset, under the D-Link brand to Mobile WiMAX subscribers around the world.

By entering the WiMAX market, D-Link is immediately becoming one of the leading consumer brands that can offer a full suite of Mobile WiMAX products. The move is especially timely given the M-Taiwan initiative and the upcoming network launches in the United States and Japan. Availability of a wide variety of Mobile WiMAX devices from a trusted consumer brand with established sales channels will accelerate the adoption of WiMAX services in those markets.

"The time to enter the WiMAX market is now and we intend to use our existing channels to establish D-Link as the leading provider of value-added enterprise and consumer networking products that are now also enabled with Mobile WiMAX," said Jeffrey Kuo, VP of Business solution for D-Link. "Mobile WiMAX capabilities are important and will extend the appeal of our products beyond their current market base; it will boost the application by VoIP, IP camera, video conference for mobile data access. Beceem BCS200's power saving and compact module size advantage allows us to develop the right product with wanted form factor and performance."

"We are glad that D-Link has chosen our BCS200 chipset. Its field proven performance makes it the perfect wireless enabler of D-Link's industry leading products, which also includes WiFi and VoIP functionality," said Dave Carroll, VP of Sales for Beceem.
