Borusan Telekom Selects Redback for Next-Gen Network Services

Redback Networks, an Ericsson company that makes video-centric routers, announced a deal to deliver next generation broadband services to Borusan Telekom, an operator in Turkey.

According to the company, Borusan Telekom selected Redback products, SmartEdge and NetOp Policy Manager for their success as a subscriber management platform in Turkey and all over the world.

Under the deal, Redback SmartEdge routers will deliver complex Internet services for Borusan Telekom's business and residential customers by supporting L2/L3 VPNs, VPLS, B-RAS, Virtual Router, Multilink PPP, L2TP and advanced QoS functionalities. The SmartEdge platform positions Borusan to lower both capital and operational costs by enabling the operator to deliver multiple services on the same platform, the company said.

"We selected the SmartEdge platform as a strategic choice for our network architecture. With SmartEdge we are able to consolidate our residential and business services onto a single platform, while being able to deliver next-generation services to our customers," said Ufuk Yasibeyli, Network Manager of Borusan Telekom. "The platform will enable us to streamline both our architecture and operations, while at the same time future-proof our network."

"Operators need to deliver the latest services to their customers to remain innovative, but at the same time face competitive market pressures to constantly reduce operating costs. Normally these two demands would be at odds, but with the SmartEdge platform, operators are able to deploy multiple services without the need to purchase extra equipment or make changes to their infrastructure," said Magnus Almquist, SVP Worldwide Sales Operations at Redback Networks. "Borusan Telekom is a key player in Turkey and highlights our growth in the wider European market, following a number of recent wins in the region."
