Turk Avea to add 2 mln users with number portability

Avea, Turkey's third-biggest mobile phone company, aims to add between 1-2 million new subscribers in one year after the government introduces the number portability in November, company's Chief Executive Cuneyt Turktan said on Wednesday.

The number portability would allow customers to keep their phone numbers when switching operators and is expected to be introduced on November 9. Eighty-one percent of Avea is owned by Turk Telekom and the rest is owned by Isbank.

Turktan said the identity information of the subscribers must be accurate for number portability, adding in order to provide this they closed 36,000 subscribers account.

"We cleared the identity information in our infrastructure network. We closed the accounts of 36,000 subscribers due to the lack of identity confirmation. We called them continuously, we either couldn’t reach them or they didn't come... The owner of each phone account must be confirmed due to security concerns... The identity information of our subscribers are completed," he also said.
