Jajah Adds PBX Functionality

Jajah Adds PBX Functionality

By Gary Kim

Jajah has expanded its Web-activated telephony services to include fully functional PBX features. The firm says it will allow small and medium sized businesses to install a virtual PBX and make VoIP calls using Jajah's network. The new offerings are part of the firm's SMB Solution Suite.

The PBX services will include voicemail, SMS, conference calls, and other business-related features. The new services put Jajah into competition with hosted PBX services like RingCentral, GotVMail and VirtualPBX amongst others.

This is yet another example of a trend we often see in communications: new providers often “creep” into a market at the low end, with “limited” functionality compared to more-established providers of “robust” services. Over time, though, the upstarts continue to add new functions and features, over time offering products that are head-to-head competitors for the established services.

That’s not to say the strategy always works. Most new companies “fail.” That’s just the nature of the start-up business. The point is that new products and services often are derided as something akin to “toys” that are no threat to the established providers of the robust services. It isn’t where you start. It’s where you finish.
