Vodafone picks Huawei for 3G equipment in Turkey

Vodafone, Turkcell and Avea this month each won high-speed third-generation mobile phone network licences in Turkey.

Vodafone has picked China's Huawei Technologies to supply infrastructure equipment for the global mobile phone operator's planned 3G network in Turkey, a senior executive said on Friday.

Vodafone, Turkcell and Avea this month each won high-speed third-generation mobile phone network licences in Turkey.

Vodafone paid 250 million euros for its 3G contract.

"We signed a five-year agreement with Huawei, which we believe will offer the best technical solution for 3G," Ian Gray, head of Vodafone Turkey, said in a statement.

Mobile phone operators are keen to get 3G, already delayed several times, up and running fast to take advantage of fast-growing demand for wireless data and voice services.
