Avea expects 10 million subscribers to switch after Mobile Number Portability

Cuneyt Turktan, CEO of Turkish GSM operator Avea, said Wednesday mobile number portability would begin this year, predicting that 10 million subscribers would change their service providers. "We expect that number portability could begin in mid-October," Turktan told reporters. Number portability is the capability of individuals, businesses and organizations to retain their existing telephone numbers when switching to a new service provider. Turktan said Avea and another GSM operator Vodafone invested together in technological infrastructure for number portability in Turkey. "Number portability is important especially for young operators in the market," he said. "At least 10 million Turkish subscribers are expected to switch their operators."
