Ubiquiti Introduces World's First 700MHz WiFi Radio

Ubiquiti Networks, a leading innovator in wireless broadband solutions, today announced XtremeRange7 -- the world's first 700MHz WiFi radio utilizing Ubiquiti's patent-pending Frequency Freedom technology. The XR7 was designed specifically for 700MHz mobile WiFi test networks as well as long-distance, outdoor broadband wireless and public safety applications. The XR7 is a compact radio module supporting 32-bit mini-PCI Type IIIA standard and features high output power (600mW), extended temperature operation, and an innovative receiver design which provides excellent noise immunity and sensitivity performance.

The XR7 is fully compatible with widely available public Linux drivers and can instantly transform many existing 802.11 based products into market-ready 700MHz solutions through simple integration of the modular mini-PCI radio. The XR7 leverages a variety of advanced features including scalable channel bandwidths of 5/10/20/40 MHz, advanced QoS, and 256-bit AES security. It is also a viable Wi-MAX replacement solution for OEM's and Carriers as it is based on field proven reliable silicon and software solutions from Atheros Communications and has been tested to link beyond distances of 50km and can achieve TCP/IP data rates greater than 50Mbps.

The XR7 radio utilizes Ubiquiti's Frequency Freedom technology which transforms standard 802.11 silicon into a powerful radio platform capable of operation in practically any frequency imaginable. Ubiquiti is able to accomplish this through innovative non-standard radio integration and firmware design. Through the integration of high-end RF design with advanced 802.11 silicon, the XR7 is able to provide a carrier-level 700MHz radio solution that achieves cost-savings and leverages the tremendous feature sets of the evolved 802.11 standard as well as seamless compatibility with a wide variety of public Linux drivers.

"With the great potential of the 700MHz band to provide non-line of sight, broadband wireless networks and the recent activity surrounding the 700MHz license auction as well as the increasing popularity of world wide 700MHz Public Safety Networks, we believe the XR7 with its excellent range capabilities, superior throughput, and widely available driver support can be an effective and versatile building block for architecting 700MHz fixed and mobile broadband networks," said Robert J. Pera, President at Ubiquiti Networks.
